bao pole ~ the leaf-stalk of the <1rofia#+rofia> palm; it is much used for poles for carrying burdens, and in the manufacture of ladders and palanquins, hence a palanquin is very frequently called <1bao#+bao>, and all poles for carrying burdens are so designated. [Comp. Greek baiis, a palm-branch, derived from the Coptic bai.] ~ a pole for carrying burdens across the shoulder.
