14 Plus récemment, semble-t-il, on a aussi donné ce nom à Thunbergia alata Bojer ex Sims (Acanthaceae). Espèce qui n'a pas l'odeur désagréable des paederia, mais l'appréciation des odeurs varie beaucoup d'un groupe culturel à un autre..

20 Sur la côte Ouest, en emploie en bains de vapeurs les plantes à odeur désagréable et très forte, pour se protéger, pense-t-on, de la maladie appelée tazo-komanga, la « fièvre du komanga », qu'on attribue aux émanations mystérieuses de cet arbre toxique. Ces plantes malodorantes sont souvent des paederia (Rubiaceae), parfois aussi des Cassia (Fabaceae)..
