Lorsque tous les rois des Amorites qui habitaient au-delà du Jourdain, vers l' ouest, et tous les rois des Cananéens qui habitaient face à la mer apprirent que Yahvé avait asséché les eaux du Jourdain devant les Israélites, jusqu'à ce qu' ils soient passés, le coeur leur manqua et ils perdirent courage devant les Israélites.

Jos 5:2

At that time the Lord said unto Joshua, Make thee sharp knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.

En ce temps-là, Yahvé dit à Josué : " Fais-toi des couteaux de silex, et circoncis de nouveau les Israélites une seconde fois . "

Jos 5:3

And Joshua made him sharp knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.

Josué se fit des couteaux de silex et circoncit les Israélites sur le Tertre des Prépuces.

Jos 5:4

And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: All the people that came out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.

Voici la raison pour laquelle Josué fit cette circoncision : toute la population mâle, sortie d'Égypte en âge de porter les armes, était morte dans le désert, en chemin, après leur sortie d'Égypte.

Now all the people that came out were circumcised: but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, them they had not circumcised.

Or, tout ce peuple émigré avait été circoncis; mais tout le peuple né dans le désert, en chemin, après leur sortie d'Égypte, on ne l' avait pas circoncis;

Jos 5:6

For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the Lord: unto whom the Lord sware that he would not shew them the land, which the Lord sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.

car pendant quarante ans les Israélites marchèrent dans le désert, jusqu'à ce que toute la nation eût péri, à savoir les hommes sortis d'Égypte en âge de porter les armes; ils n' avaient pas obéi à la voix de Yahvé, et Yahvé leur avait juré de ne pas leur laisser voir la terre qu' il avait juré à leurs pères de nous donner, terre qui ruisselle de lait et de miel.

Jos 5:7

And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them Joshua circumcised: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way.

Quant à leurs fils, il les établit à leur place, et ce sont eux que Josué circoncit : ils étaient incirconcis, car on ne les avait pas circoncis en chemin.

And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.

Lorsqu' on eut achevé de circoncire toute la nation, ils restèrent sur place dans le camp jusqu'à leur guérison.

Jos 5:9

And the Lord said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.

Alors Yahvé dit à Josué : " Aujourd' hui j' ai ôté de dessus vous le déshonneur de l'Égypte. " Aussi a-t-on appelé ce lieu du nom de Gilgal jusqu' aujourd' hui.

Jos 5:10

And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.

Les Israélites campèrent à Gilgal et y firent la Pâque, le quatorzième jour du mois, le soir, dans la plaine de Jéricho.

Jos 5:11

And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day.

Le lendemain de la Pâque, ils mangèrent du produit du pays : pains sans levain et épis grillés, en ce même jour.

Jos 5:12

And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

Ary nitsahatra ny mana tamin' iny andro ampitso iny, dia tamin' ny nihinanany ny vokatry ny tany, ka tsy nisy mana ho an' ny Zanak' Isiraely intsony; fa nihinana ny vokatry ny tany Kanana izy tamin' izany taona izany.

Il n' y eut plus de manne le lendemain, où ils mangeaient du produit du pays. Les Israélites n' ayant plus de manne se nourrirent dès cette année des produits de la terre de Canaan.

Jos 5:13

And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?

Or Josué, se trouvant près de Jéricho, leva les yeux et vit un homme qui se tenait debout devant lui, une épée nue à la main. Josué s' avança vers lui et lui dit : " Es-tu des nôtres ou de nos ennemis ? "

Jos 5:14

And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the Lord am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my Lord unto his servant?

Il répondit : " Non! Mais je suis le chef de l' armée de Yahvé, et maintenant je suis venu. " Josué, tombant la face contre terre, l' adora et dit : " Que dit mon Seigneur à son serviteur ? "

Jos 5:15

And the captain of the Lord' s host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.

Dia hoy Ilay Komandin' ny miaramilan' i Jehovah tamin' i Josoa: Esory amin' ny tongotrao ny kapanao; fa masina io tany ijanonanao io. Dia nataon' i Josoa izany.

Nidaboka tamin' ny tany sy niankohoka Josoe, ka nanao taminy hoe: Inona no lazain' ny Tompoko amin' ny mpanompony?

Le chef de l' armée de Yahvé répondit à Josué : " Ote tes sandales de tes pieds, car le lieu sur lequel tu te trouves est saint. " Et Josué fit ainsi.

Ary hoy ilay filohan' ny tafik' Iaveh tamin' i Josoe: Esory hiala amin' ny tongotrao ny kapanao, fa masina io tany ijanonanao io. Dia nataon' i Josoe izany.
